Instead of the opportunity to join Beijing General Hospital of Chinese Peoples’ Liberation Army, Dr. Liu volunteered to go to the military front in Yun-nan, where she was honoured with a third-class merit in July 1984.Being disallowed to join rescue work for many times, she spent her home leave to return to the military front, overstaying,and then was punished with a warning in July,1986.Despite being injured, she still rescued over 200 wounded soldiers, and got another order of merit.Dr. Liu was elected as the 2nd Hero Delegate of the whole Liberation Army in July 1987 and as the 12th Communist Youth League Central Committee member in 1988.
She became the attending surgeon of the burning department of the Fourth Military Xi-jing Hospital in in 2003. In that year, she used her own body to take part in the clinical trial of Tissue Engineering Skin (a kind of man-made skin) to verify the skin’s clinical effectiveness, to prevent medical negligence, and moved forward this pivotal project in China 863 Program. She was the first examinee and examiner of Tissue Engineering Skin accordingly, and is a leading authority on its clinical applications.
She is an expert in the treatment to all kinds of burns, dermal ulcers, scars, adiposity, hemangioma, moles, hereditary malformation and postnatal defects, especially in the application of Tissue Engineering Skin to treat vitiligo and burn. Her patients’ survival rate of skin grafting could almost reach to 100%. Dr. Liu promises to graft skin for free the second time if the first surgery is not perfect.
She has published more than 10 medical papers , and one of which is rated “excellent” by China Recuperative and Reconstructive Surgery Magazine.
